LAMBRIDGE MATTERS, latest edition:

Campaigning for better street signs

We have discovered that vital street signs are missing or are not clearly visible at various road junctions around Larkhall and Swainswick. The problem is particularly acute at the St Saviour's Road end of Dafford Street, and at the top end of Dafford Street as it is approached from Brooklyn Road; if emergency services had to attend a serious incident and could not quickly find these locations, it could cost lives. Accordingly, Cllr Bryan Chalker has begun to lobby the council and is out and about hunting down other examples of poor signposting. If you are aware of any streets in Lambridge which are poorly signposted we’d like to hear from you.

Zero tolerance over fly-tipping hotspot

Dafford's Lane, which connects Dafford's Buildings and Dafford Street, has seen a spate of rubbish dumping, with items ranging from doors to household waste. The lane is popular with local residents and revellers walking between the Rose and Crown and Brains Surgery pubs, but is being tarnished by abandoned household junk. Cllr Bryan Chalker was told of the problem by people living in the area and immediately contacted the Council to get the rubbish cleared. Cllr Bryan Chalker is determined to sort this out and are appealing to Lambridge residents to report the people who are to blame. Fly-tipping is harmful to the environment and can be very dangerous to people and wildlife. To report an incident of illegal dumping, or if you suspect someone of fly-tipping, email actionline@bathnes.gov.uk or call the council action line on 394041.

Keeping pupils safe

Measures to make roads outside Larkhall's schools safer are now just one step away from being introduced as a result of the excellent Safety Outside Schools campaign. All four routes around St Saviour's Nursery and Infants School, and St Saviour's Junior School, are set to have a wide range of traffic calming devices installed around them. Under the plans, Eldon Place, Spring Lane and two stretches of Charlcombe Lane would become 20mph zones, marked with red painted gateway areas and signposts. Textured surfaces would also be added at crossing points between the three roads. Along with parents and governors, your Conservative representatives have and are working hard to get these measures implemented. Cllr Bryan Chalker was honoured to present your petition to B&NES transport officials.

Concerns over student housing

Bath’s two universities undoubtedly make a huge contribution to the city: they provide jobs, sports facilities, and generally boost the local economy. However, some residential areas in Bath have suffered terribly as a result of student colonisation. So with more and more students moving into the Lambridge area it is clear that this issue needs careful consideration and planning. Cllr Bryan Chalker is alert to the problem and will stand-up for local residents.

Lambridge park-and-ride

We will continue monitoring developments with the proposed Lambridge park-and-ride and will scrutinise proposals to ensure that any development is entirely necessary and utterly sensible. Furthermore, your Conservative representatives in Lambridge will oppose anything that isn’t.
